Managing known services#

Known services is a list of domains that belong to well-known internet services, organized by what the service does. Unlike verified domains (which connect a domain to an organization), known service domains describe the type of service a domain provides.

What is a known service domain?#

A known service domain records a domain and the type of service it offers. For example, gmail.com is an "email" service, and cloudflare.com is a "cdn" service.

This list is separate from brands and tags. Brands and tags tell you who operates a service. Known service domains tell you what the service does.

Searching and filtering#

The known services list supports:

  • Search by domain โ€” Find services by domain name (partial matches work).
  • Filter by service type โ€” Show only services of a specific type.
  • Pagination โ€” Browse through large lists of services.

How known services differ from other features#

FeaturePurposeLinks to brands?
Verified domainsConfirm a domain belongs to an organizationYes โ€” always linked to a brand
Known servicesCategorize a domain by service typeNo โ€” independent of brands
TXT/MX/NS tagsIdentify services in DNS recordsYes โ€” optionally linked to a brand

Known services complement the other features by providing a service-type classification layer that doesn't depend on brand associations.
