Verified ASNs

Managing verified ASNs#

Verified ASNs let you associate autonomous system numbers with brands. When a user looks up an IP address and the WHOIS data includes an ASN that matches a verified entry, the tool can display additional brand context.

What is an ASN?#

An ASN (Autonomous System Number) identifies a network operator on the internet. Every organization that operates its own network โ€” such as an internet service provider, cloud provider, or large enterprise โ€” has one or more ASNs.

Examples:

ASNOrganization
AS15169Google
AS13335Cloudflare
AS16509Amazon (AWS)
AS8075Microsoft
AS32934Facebook (Meta)

ASNs are used in internet routing to identify which network is responsible for delivering traffic to specific IP address ranges.

Creating a verified ASN#

  1. Go to Verified ASNs in the navigation.
  2. Click Add Verified ASN.
  3. Enter the ASN identifier (for example, AS15169).
  4. Enter the numeric ASN number (for example, 15169).
  5. Select a brand from the dropdown.
  6. Add a description and additional lines (optional).
  7. Click Save.

Tips#

  • Use uppercase for the ASN identifier: AS15169, not as15169.
  • Check authoritative sources like PeeringDB, ARIN, or RIPE to verify ASN ownership.
  • Large organizations may have multiple ASNs. Create a separate entry for each.
  • The description helps other admins understand what the ASN is used for (for example, "Google Cloud" vs. "YouTube CDN").

Editing a verified ASN#

  1. Go to Verified ASNs in the navigation.
  2. Find the ASN in the list.
  3. Click Edit in the Actions column.
  4. Update the fields you want to change.
  5. Click Save.

Deleting a verified ASN#

  2. Find the ASN in the list.
  3. Click Delete in the Actions column.
  4. Confirm the deletion.

Searching verified ASNs#

You can search and filter by:

  • ASN number or identifier โ€” Partial matches work.
  • Brand โ€” Filter to show only ASNs for a specific brand.
  • Description โ€” Search within descriptions.

How verified ASNs affect lookups#

When a user looks up an IP address:

  1. The IP WHOIS data typically includes an ASN for the network.
  2. The tool checks whether that ASN exists in the verified ASNs database.
  3. If it does, the associated brand information supplements the WHOIS display.
  4. This helps identify the organization even when the WHOIS data uses a subsidiary or parent company name that might not be immediately recognizable.
